The Southern Jewel Muscadine Grape is a premium muscadine variety prized for its extra-large, jet-black berries and exceptionally sweet, rich flavor. Known for its consistent productivity and impressive fruit quality, Southern Jewel is an excellent choice for fresh eating, preserves, and small-batch winemaking.

This vigorous vine produces attractive, dense foliage that grows beautifully on trellises, fences, and arbors. Southern Jewel thrives in warm, humid regions and offers the durability muscadines are known for—excellent disease resistance, strong growth, and low maintenance needs.

Spacing 8–10 ft. between vines; trellis support recommended
Pruning Spur pruning in late winter; maintain strong cordons and remove old wood annually
Fertilization Do not fertilize at planting. Once the trees are established, fertilize in early spring (Mar-April) as growth begins. Do not fertilize in the fall, which could promote late season tender growth that can be damaged by early frosts.
Watering Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center.
