Save money with a pre-bundled Dunstan Chestnut Tree Package. This 10-tree starter kit includes everything you need to begin a high-performance food plot or chestnut orchard: Dunstan Chestnut™ seedlings, grow tubes, weed mats, and bamboo stakes. Packages are discounted compared to buying individually.
Dunstan Chestnut™ trees are the most widely planted chestnut trees in America, combining excellent nut quality, fast growth, and strong blight resistance. They grow successfully from Maine and New York to the Midwest and throughout the South, making them ideal for both wildlife habitat and commercial or backyard orchards. Dunstan Chestnuts are one of the best trees for attracting deer, producing reliable mast crops every year.
These trees can begin producing nuts in 3–5 years depending on climate and care (5–7 years in colder USDA Zone 5). For best results, plant in well-drained soil on a south-facing slope and avoid frost pockets or heavy clay. Mature trees can produce 50–100 lbs of large, sweet, tannin-free nuts, with young trees yielding 20 lbs by year ten. Cold hardy to USDA Zones 5–9 and easy to grow in a wide range of conditions.
Trees may be lightly pruned to fit shipping boxes. This will not affect tree health or nut production.

| Spacing | 30-50’. Ideal spacing for nut production is 35-40' apart. |
| Pruning | Chestnuts require minimal pruning. Light pruning in early years to form a strong central leader structure. |
| Fertilization | Do not fertilize at planting. Once the trees are established, fertilize in early spring (Mar-April) as growth begins. Do not fertilize in the fall, which could promote late season tender growth that can be damaged by early frosts. |
| Watering | Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
