The Powderblue Blueberry is a hardy Rabbiteye variety, well-suited for the Southeastern U.S. thanks to its vigorous growth and heat tolerance. Known for being low-maintenance with minimal pest problems, it’s an excellent choice for home gardeners and growers alike.
This variety gets its name from the powder-blue blush that appears on the berries when they ripen. Powderblue is one of the toughest blueberry plants, with a late ripening season. It grows upright and can reach an impressive 8 to 12 feet in both height and width.
Bloom Time: Late spring

The medium-sized berries are firm, sweet, and juicy—perfect for fresh eating, baking, or preserving.

Pruning | In late winter, Prune for an open, vase-like shape to improve air circulation and sunlight exposure. This reduces the risk of disease and ensures even fruit ripening. |
Fertilization | Do not fertilize at planting. Once the trees are established, fertilize in early spring (Mar-April) as growth begins. Do not fertilize in the fall, which could promote late season tender growth that can be damaged by early frosts. |
Watering | Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
