The TexStar Peach Tree, developed by the Texas A&M peach breeding program, is a frost-hardy, low-chill peach variety built for the mild winters of Texas and the Southern U.S. This early-season peach tree delivers large, red-blushed peaches that ripen in early June, making it a top pick for home orchards and warm-climate growers.
TexStar produces firm, sweet yellow-flesh peaches with a delicate blush near the center, ideal for fresh eating, baking, canning, and preserves. In early spring, it explodes with showy pink blossoms, adding strong ornamental appeal while supporting pollinators.
With a chill requirement of 450–600 chill hours, this self-fruiting, low-maintenance peach tree provides consistent, reliable harvests in Texas, the Gulf Coast, and other warm-temperate regions.

| Pruning | Prune peach trees in late winter by removing dead wood, thinning the center for airflow, shortening side branches to 3-4 buds, and cutting away suckers to encourage healthy growth and fruiting. Once mature, peaches should be pruned yearly for best fruit production. |
| Fertilization | Do not fertilize at planting. Once the trees are established, fertilize in early spring (Mar-April) as growth begins. Do not fertilize in the fall, which could promote late season tender growth that can be damaged by early frosts. |
| Watering | Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
