The Bruce Plum Tree (Prunus salicina ‘Bruce’) is a proven low-chill Japanese plum variety prized for its rich wine-red skin, sweet yellow flesh, and perfectly balanced semi-acidic flavor. This high-yield plum tree produces attractive, medium to large fruit that excels for fresh eating, canning, preserves, and home orchards, while also offering one of the best shelf lives among plums—often storing in refrigeration for up to eight weeks without losing quality.
Designed for warm climates and mild winters, Bruce Plum requires just ~250 chill hours, making it an excellent choice for the Southeast, Gulf Coast, Texas, and other low-chill regions. The tree is vigorous, productive, and reliable, delivering consistent crops where higher-chill plum varieties struggle. Its dependable performance and strong fruit quality make it a favorite for backyard growers, food plots, and small farms.
For growers seeking a low-chill plum tree with excellent flavor, long storage potential, and Southern adaptability, the Bruce Plum Tree stands out as a top-performing, warm-climate stone fruit.

| Pruning | Prune plum trees in late winter by removing dead wood, thinning the center for airflow, shortening side branches to 3-4 buds, and cutting away suckers to encourage healthy growth and fruiting. Once mature, peaches should be pruned yearly for best fruit production. |
| Fertilization | Do not fertilize at planting. Once the trees are established, fertilize in early spring (Mar-April) as growth begins. Do not fertilize in the fall, which could promote late season tender growth that can be damaged by early frosts. |
| Watering | Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
