The Ichi-Ki-Kei-Jiro Persimmon Tree, meaning “first life from Jiro,” is an exceptional non-astringent Asian persimmon and a prized sport of the famous Jiro variety. Known for its early ripening, compact growth habit, and outstanding fruit quality, Ichi is a top choice for small yards, backyard orchards, and high-density fruit plantings.

This early-season persimmon tree ripens from September through October, producing large, flat, quadrant-shaped orange fruit with a consistently sweet, mild flavor that can be eaten fresh and firm with no astringency. As a true non-astringent persimmon cultivar, Ichi-Ki-Kei-Jiro delivers dependable eating quality and beautiful fruit presentation year after year.

With its natural dwarf growth habit of 10–15 feet, this compact persimmon tree is ideal for limited spaces, home gardens, patios, and urban landscapes. It is cold hardy in USDA Zones 6–9 and, when properly planted and cared for, can begin producing fruit in just 2–3 years. Strong structure, manageable size, and reliable production make it one of the best dwarf persimmon trees for sale.

For growers seeking a cold-hardy, early-ripening, non-astringent persimmon tree that delivers large fruit on a compact tree, the Ichi-Ki-Kei-Jiro Persimmon is an outstanding choice—a Chestnut Hill selection built for flavor, efficiency, and long-term success.

Pruning Most persimmon trees require minimal pruning, especially once they’re bearing fruits. Pruning is usually restricted to controlling the tree’s size or removing dead, diseased, and damaged branches. Prune any suckers that develop.
Fertilization It is not recommended to fertilize trees at the time of planting or young trees. Excessive fertilizing may cause premature fruit drop. Apply a balanced slow release fertilizer after the tree is established and begins to break dormancy in spring.
Watering Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center.

At Chestnut Hill Outdoors, we’ve been shipping mail order trees for over 30 years. We’re experts at delivering healthy trees to your doorstep. All of our trees are container grown in root-enhancing pots, ensuring healthy root systems and much better success upon planting.
