The Pakistan Mulberry (Morus macroura), also known as Shahtoot or long mulberry, is a remarkable fast-growing deciduous fruit tree prized for its exceptionally long, sweet, juicy berries and its lush ornamental presence in the landscape. Native to Pakistan, India, China, and Southeast Asia, this mulberry variety is celebrated for its high fruit production, vigorous growth, and elegant canopy—making it a standout choice for home gardens, edible landscapes, and small shade tree plantings.
Fruits reach an astonishing 4–5 inches long, ripening from bright red to deep purple-black with a rich, honey-like sweetness. These non-staining fruits offer the joy of mulberries without the mess, making the tree ideal for patios, walkways, and lawn spaces. Pakistan mulberries are highly valued for fresh eating, drying, desserts, jams, syrups, and traditional medicinal uses, thanks to their antioxidant- and vitamin-rich profile.
This variety thrives in warm climates and is not recommended for areas where temperatures dip below 28°F for extended periods or where late freezes are common. Gardeners in cooler regions (Zones 5–6) can still grow Pakistan Mulberry with winter protection and careful site selection.
For growers seeking a showstopping mulberry tree with unmatched fruit size, sweetness, and productivity, the Pakistan Mulberry is one of the most rewarding choices you can plant.

| Pruning | Light pruning while young to create strong branch framework |
| Fertilization | Do not fertilize at planting. Once the trees are established, fertilize in early spring (Mar-April) as growth begins. Do not fertilize in the fall, which could promote late season tender growth that can be damaged by early frosts. |
| Watering | Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
