The Tennessee Mountain Fig is a rugged, cold-hardy Southern fig variety built for growers who want dependable harvests even where winters run cooler. Adapted to the foothills and rolling landscapes of the Southeast, this fig thrives where others struggle, producing medium to large, sweet brownish-purple fruit with a rich, full-bodied flavor. Ideal for fresh eating, fig preserves, baking, canning, and drying, it’s a standout choice for gardeners who value hardy plants that give back generously.

This variety forms a broad, bushy tree with deeply lobed green leaves that bring ornamental charm to edible landscapes, homesteads, small orchards, and backyard gardens. In warm regions, Tennessee Mountain Fig often produces two crops—a breba crop in early summer and a main crop in late summer to early fall. In cooler climates, it reliably sets one abundant, high-quality harvest, making it a trusted performer across diverse growing conditions.

Rooted in resilience and known for its dependable production, the Tennessee Mountain Fig is an excellent fit for land lovers who want a cold-tolerant, high-flavor, easy-care fig tree that grows strong season after season.

Fertilization Do not fertilize at planting. Once the trees are established, fertilize in early spring (Mar-April) as growth begins. Do not fertilize in the fall, which could promote late season tender growth that can be damaged by early frosts.
Watering Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during dry periods. Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center.
