A new tree is most likely to fail in its first year. Deer and rabbits browse it, grass and weeds take its water, and the roots are still settling into new soil. Each Tree Survival Kit handles all three at planting time, for one tree. Bulk Packs give you one kit per tree for plantings of 10 to 200 trees.

What’s in each kit

• 1 Grow Tube, 4 ft: the semi-opaque tube works like a small greenhouse, letting light through while holding in moisture. It shields the tree from wildlife and weather, and one-year seedlings often grow out of the top in a single season. The tube stays on until the tree outgrows it, usually 4 to 5 years.
• 1 Weed Mat, 3 ft x 3 ft: pre-cut woven polypropylene with a slit and hole for easy installation. It shades out weeds and grass so the tree’s roots do not compete for water and nutrients, while still letting moisture and air through. It can be covered with mulch or rock.
• 1 Bamboo Stake, 4 ft: holds the grow tube upright and in place.
• 1 Soil Moist Mycorrhiza Transplant Formula, 3 oz: 12 species of mycorrhizal fungi, beneficial bacteria and a water-holding polymer, mixed into the backfill to help roots establish and cut down on watering.

How to install

1. Dig the planting hole and mix the Soil Moist Transplant into the backfill so it touches the roots. Use 3/4 oz. for a 1-gallon tree, 1 1/2 oz. for a 2 to 3-gallon tree, or 3 oz. per caliper inch of trunk.
2. Plant the tree and water it in thoroughly. Follow our growing instructions for best results.
3. Slide the weed mat around the trunk through the pre-cut slit and lay it flat and fasten with garden staples.
4. Set the grow tube over the tree, drive the bamboo stake in next to it, and fasten the tube to the stake.

Soil Moist Transplant is effective on all trees, shrubs and plants except laurels, rhododendrons and azaleas. Do not use fungicides for 3 weeks before or after applying it.
