The Bartlett Pear Tree (Pyrus communis ‘Bartlett’), known as the Williams Pear in Europe, is the most widely grown pear variety in the world and a true standard for flavor and versatility. This high-chill European pear is prized for its sweet, juicy flesh, fragrant aroma, and classic pear shape, making it a favorite for fresh eating, canning, baking, and preserves in traditional pear-growing regions.
Introduced to the United States in the 1790s by Enoch Bartlett of Massachusetts, this historic variety quickly earned its place in American orchards. In early to mid-spring, Bartlett pear trees are covered in fluffy white blossoms that attract pollinators and add ornamental beauty to the landscape. The fruit begins green on the tree and ripens to a warm golden yellow with subtle red blush, signaling peak flavor and aroma.
With a chill requirement of approximately 800 hours, the Bartlett Pear Tree performs best in regions with cold winters, delivering reliable crops and classic pear quality year after year. For growers seeking a traditional, high-chill pear tree with proven performance and world-class flavor, the Bartlett Pear Tree remains an essential orchard staple.

| Pruning | Pear trees should be pruned annually in the winter when they are dormant. Please refer to the Pruning section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
| Fertilization | It is not recommended to fertilize trees at the time of planting or young trees. Excessive fertilizing may cause premature fruit drop. Apply a balanced slow release fertilizer after the tree is established and begins to break dormancy in spring. |
| Watering | Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
