Kieffer is a large golden-colored fruit with a crimson blush. A hybrid between Pyrus communis and Pyrus pyrifolia. It has crisp, juicy white flesh, a coarse texture, and is excellent for canning and baking, considered to be a Sand pear. Pick the fruit and store it in a cool place, will sweeten over time as it ripens. Almost immune to fireblight. Better with a pollinator. Vigorous and very hardy. Low chill, 350-400 hours, Zones 5-9. Ripens during hunting season, Sept-Oct. New trees can produce fruit in 2-3 years depending on care and climate. The success of new trees is heavily dependent on the care received during and after planting.

Pruning | Pear trees should be pruned annually in the winter when they are dormant. Please refer to the Pruning section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
Fertilization | Do not fertilize at planting. Once the trees are established, fertilize in early spring (Mar-April) as growth begins. Do not fertilize in the fall, which could promote late season tender growth that can be damaged by early frosts. |
Watering | Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
