Acreage is based on 35 ft spacing, about 35 trees per acre.
Containerized, not bare-root. Every tree ships in a treeband pot, 1.5 to 3 feet tall, with its root system intact. Our trees are container grown in root-enhancing pots, which means healthier roots and better success at planting than bare-root seedlings. They also ship year-round, not just during a short spring window.
Dunstan Chestnut™ trees are the most widely planted chestnut trees in America, combining excellent nut quality, fast growth, and strong blight resistance. They grow successfully from Maine and New York to the Midwest and throughout the South, making them ideal for both wildlife habitat and commercial or backyard orchards. Dunstan Chestnuts are one of the best trees for attracting deer, producing reliable mast crops every year.
These trees can begin producing nuts in 3 to 5 years depending on climate and care (5 to 7 years in colder USDA Zone 5). For best results, plant in well-drained soil on a south-facing slope and avoid frost pockets or heavy clay. Mature trees can produce 50 to 100 lbs of large, sweet, tannin-free nuts, with young trees yielding 20 lbs by year ten. Cold hardy to USDA Zones 5 to 9.
Protect your planting. Planting supplies are sold separately. Add a Tree Survival Kit for each tree: a 4 ft grow tube, weed mat, bamboo stake and Soil Moist Transplant pack. For a full planting, Tree Survival Kit Bulk Packs come in 10 to 200 kits, as low as $15.45 per kit.
Shipping. Packages ship by UPS in multiple boxes. Trees may be lightly pruned to fit shipping boxes. This will not affect tree health or nut production. Need a custom count or a delivery date? Call the office.
